"En" is a small Japanese-style teahouse in the Gion area of Kyoto.
You can enjoy an authentic tea ceremony experience first hand.
Tea ceremony (the way of tea) is one of Japan's traditional cultural practices,
and is a name given to an art that synthesizes the preparation and drinking of tea together
with spirituality, history, architecture, the appreciation of handmade tea utensils.
En offers a participatory introduction to Japanese tea ceremony for everyone to enjoy!

The word "En" has important resonances to the Japanese people.
The characters "縁" and "円", amongst many others, are both pronounced "en".
"縁" signifies a connection or relationbetween people, spaces or things,
and is considered a very important concept.
"円" means round or a circle: a shape without corners, from the beginning to the end.
The circle, with its quality of amicabilityimmense as the sky and without interruption or imperfection,and symbolic of a mind without ill-feeling,
is considered to be the shape most expressive of enlightenment
and of the highest truths of Zen Buddhism.

*The tea ceremony experience will be conducted with other guests.
*You cannot enter the tea room after the group tea ceremony starts so please don't be late.

*Private tea ceremony from 2 persons, but if you are only one, it's 9000yen.
*Reservation will be needed
*Cancellation fee will be 100% if canceled on the same day of the reservation
Art & Sake tasting walking tour
We are surrounded by high buildings and mass production which is the result of the industrial development in Japan (1955-73).
Historically Japanese were skilled craftsmen and made utensils and daily items by hand using natural materials.
The highly developed craftmanship established what is the now recognized "Japanese culture" as Japanese valued.
On this tour we hope you can enjoy the essence of the Japanese sense of humor together with appreciation of delicate handmade works.
Although we only have few craftmen nowadays, we would like to share the wonderful experience of these specially skilled works.
THE TOUR INCLUDES
1. The Japanese art Ukiyoe
→Ukiyoe is both painting as well as wood block printing that was created in Edo period, in 16c.
The subjects are usually Beautiful Japanese ladies in 16c, Kabuki actors, and landscapes in particular Mt.Fuji.
2. Japanese kimono and visits to an antique kimono shop.
→Do you know how to design and dye, sew a kimono?
Kimono are made by professional craftsman, we hope you will feel their mind.
3. Tasting Japanese Sake
→Sake is not one type. There are various kinds of sake, and tastes, also they have interest history and tradition.
(If you don't drink sake, we can provide tea)
